Critical Reflection

My short film for A-level Aice Media Studies was titled “The Beaten Path”. The film was about a man who was simply following his daily routine and going for a run when he came across a dead body on the path. The film details the following few days in which the police are involved, the body is covered up, and the killer is exposed. The film challenged conventions by showing corruption within employment. The killer was discovered to be the very same park ranger that was alerted to the body in the first place, allowing him time to dispose and cover up his tracks before the police could investigate. This shows how even the people we trust and look to for help could be something unexpected and that we need to be careful with who is trusted and who is hired for important positions in the world. There are important background checks that are commonly overlooked when certain applications are submitted for employment. The effects that this can have point towards corruption and can only lead t...

Website and Media

Image
The filming and editing are both complete. This has been a long process but it is almost over. All that is left to do is create a website and an Instagram. These will both be easy to do. Sean H. has agreed to create both. The project is completed so now the advertising must be created. Again, this will be easy. The Instagram will feature pictures of all the actors. Along with this, it will advertise the release of the film. The website will be linked in the bio of the Instagram. The YouTube will also be linked. This is where the film will be uploaded. Sean H. has the finished film. This means that he will be the one to upload it. My group is super excited for everyone to see our film. The editing was completed well. I have received only positive feedback from anyone who has seen the film. I can't wait for everyone to see this film. My group worked super hard on it and I think it turned out great. This has been a fun process and I am glad the outcome was as good as I had hoped....

Finished Filming

Image
Today my group finished filming. After two days, my group is done. Everyone was there on time today. My group worked quickly and everyone was focused the whole time. My scenes as one character were filmed first. Then the scenes with Rhys and Sean D. were filmed. After that, my scenes as the other character were filmed. Some scenes were filmed in the car at the end since the location was not important. There was only one scene with other people in the background. They both agreed to be in the film since they were far away. My group was thankful for this because it would be a pain to have to reshoot. Rhys agreed to edit the film. He said that he would do it as soon as he could. There is more than enough time to edit. This means that he does not have to rush. Sean H. will also be editing. Hopefully those two working together will have the film finished quickly. This will make it easier for a peer review. I am happy to be finished filming. This film will be great!

More Details...

Image
My group has discussed more details for filming. It will still happen Sunday. Everyone is available. I don't have any plans. Sean D. called out of work. Sean H. didn't have work. Rhys is able to come but only for 2 hours. Everyone will meet at Ann Colb Nature Center at 10am. Then everyone will walk across the street to a nature trail. There are a lot of scenes to film. Everyone will wear their costumes. This will make the process faster. Hopefully there will be enough time. The only issue will be keeping other people out of the background. If anyone is in a scene that looks good, I will get permission from them to be in the film. If they say no then the scene will be redone. Sean D. and Rhys will be in almost every scene. I am only in a few scenes. I play two roles in the scenes being filmed. Hopefully there will be enough time to finish the film before Rhys has to leave.

Nothing to do...

Image
There is nothing else to do. This week feels like a waste of time. Since filming cannot happen until Sunday, there is nothing else to do this week. I cannot even do a peer review because there is not enough film to review. I wish my group could film sooner so the project could be completed. After filming, it will still need to be edited. Only then can I get a peer review. Until then, there is nothing else to do. I have baseball practice every day this week. The only day I don't have practice is Friday. That's because I have a game. I am keeping busy all week. I just don't like that I cannot finish this film sooner. My group feels the same way. Everyone wants to be done with this project. Only a few more days until filming. Then, Rhys said he would help to film. This is very crucial to the project. Rhys has been super helpful for this project. His acting and now editing plays huge roles in the final project.

A Change

Image
Today my group decided to finish filming on Sunday. This is the only information that has been decided. No time is set. I don't know how much time there will be. Today I have a baseball game. Hopefully my team will win. I also decided to do something that I am hoping wont be noticed in the film. I got another haircut. This one was different though. I shaved it all off. I got a buzz cut. I had promised one of my friends that if he did it I would do it. He got his buzz cut so I had top get mine. I am hoping no one will notice it in my film. My hair was super long so I don't know how well I can hide it. The back of my head looks completely different. I will try to show it as little as possible. That will be very hard. I told my ground so everyone knows. I will see what I can do to minimize this.

Back to Planning

Image
My group is back to finding plans. Filming was not completed so another day is required. This time it will be at a park near my house. Everyone will meet there. The process of planning a filming day is always difficult. I think next Sunday will have to work. No one is working and I do not have any games. Hopefully this will be good for everyone. I can bring my costume to film and so can Sean. Rhys will also have to come since he is one of the main actors. It will probably take longer because there are more scenes. This is a problem because there is less time. I will try to find a way to make it work since it is by my house. Hopefully Rhys can move his plans to be a different day so there will be more time. If he cannot there might even need to be a third day to film. I hope it does not come to that. I know I will be free all day. Sean H. said he would be free all day. Sean D. said he could call out of work. Lets just hope Rhys can come through so filming can be completed.

Finally...

Image
Today my group started filming. I had practice in the morning. After practice, I had to get a haircut. Once I was finished, I went home and met my group mates. Everyone met at my house as planned. For the first few minutes, it was hard to get everyone to focus. After that, everyone realized we had to be serious. I acted in a few of the scenes and Rhys acted in the ones that I wasn't in. Sean D. didn't really have to do anything. Sean H. was filming. A lot of the time was spent trying to decide how the scenes would be set up. I also had to find parts of my costume. I had to get props for Sean's costume as well. This took more time than expected. Along with all this, I had to find somewhere to put my dog. He kept getting in the way of the shots. After a while, I just locked him outside for a little until filming was done inside. Then I locked him inside so filming could happen outside. After about 2 hours, filming was completed at my house but there were still scenes that ne...

Planning

Image
My group finally started to actually plan a timeline for filming. Sean H. came up with the idea to film on Saturday. This day worked for everyone so it was set in stone. Everyone would meet at my house to film on Saturday. This was because my house had places to film each scene necessary. Sean D. will bring a friend to help us act in the film. Sean H. will bring costumes for the film. Everyone will meet at my house to film at 2. I have practice in the morning so I cannot film until the afternoon. I also have to get a haircut so I won't be home until even later than usual. This was the best time for the group top film. I will be one of the actors and so will Sean D. Another actor will be a friend of my group named Rhys. He will be helping the group with acting. This makes life a lot easier when trying to film. He is available more often than anyone so filming will move quickly. Everyone is available Saturday so it will be the perfect day to start. If filming isn't fi...

Tomorrow...

Image
My group is supposed to start filming tomorrow. Sean H. will meet me at my house with a camera. Sean D. will pick up Rhys to help act in the film. I will also be a main actor in the film. I will play multiple roles in the film. Sean D. will also have a role in the film. Sean H. is doing most of the filming so he will not be acting in the film. The filming process should take a while. I do not think we will finish filming tomorrow. This means that we will have to pick another date to film. This will be determined tomorrow. If filming is not completed, my group will pick a new date to finish filming. Each member will have to agree on a date to miss work or practice. Hopefully filming will be mostly completed tomorrow. That will make this a lot easier for everyone. Sean H. is bringing me a costume for one of my roles in the film. I will be playing two different roles. To make this look better, I will have multiple costumes. This will make my multitude of roles more sub...

Procrastinating...

Image
My group has officially entered the stage of production in which filming should begin. The only problem with this is that some members of the group have been busy. Finding a day to film is very difficult with three people. Sean H. always has work so he needs to plan weeks in advance to take days off. Sean D. also has work so each of them would need to get approved for the same day off. I have baseball practice every day of the week as well which means I am busy a lot as well. The season also just started meaning I will also have games and I'll get home even later. My first game was yesterday. My team lost but it looks like a promising team for the season. I have three games a week on most weeks. Along with this, I have practice every day there isn't a game. My practices don't end until around six, which is too late to then start filming. The only days filming makes sense is weekends. Saturday afternoons are best. Sundays could also work but a lot of times my groupma...

Some Bright Ideas

Image
Hey guys, we are back from break and planning continues. This film is unlike any work from last year and it is setting in. Jackson and sean are juniors who have a lot going on. while Sean D is a senior ready to get his diploma which is his last credit and ours too.  Unlike last year it is simpler as our location is right by Jackson's house, it's a forest park where we can film and use the natural setting. We plan to try and start production in mid-February and get ahead of it as junior year is busy but you never know. Our backup time is right after the school SAT as we would no longer worry about that. Jackson and Sean are the main actors along with one of his neighbors which is undecided yet who will act as the victim found in our thriller. Being in a natural environment people can be at risk so finding a safe section without wild animals is a must. Our props so far are minimal as we just need a car, outfits for the actors along with a phone to act as how they call 911. My ...

Short film research: Hysteric, Thriller-Mystery Genre

Image
This video is all about a family; while the two daughters are shown in bed, their interest is piqued when they hear a mystery noise coming from their home. It turns out that their mother has gone insane, leaving these two daughters to struggle for their own safety and survival against their mother, who is out for blood. The most prevalent camera angle shown in this film was a medium angle camera shot, which mostly focuses on the upper half of one of the daughter's bodies as we watch her attempt to solve the sound's riddle. Tracking shots were also prevalent, as we followed the same daughter getting up and walking towards the commotion as she investigated; when she realized her mother has killed her father, the tracking camera shifted back to the daughter. These tracking shots give the impression that everything was shot in one long take as if the audience were there by the daughter. The ambiance was most important in this picture since we only heard the volume of rain pourin...

Short film research: Jet, Thriller Genre

Image
The film is called "Jet". The film begins with an over-the-shoulder shot of a man in a car peering through the front windshield. In the distance, an automobile speeds up a slope. The camera pans to the side of the man's head, revealing that he intends to murder himself as he draws a handgun to his side. A little girl bounces down the street at that very moment, and the man puts the gun away in the van, pulls up, and kidnaps the daughter, making him think about what to do next. The scene then cuts to a man cautiously making his way across a woodland line, looking to see where the car had gone, and then sprinting through the trees toward the house. He stays in the bush, dashes across the front yard, and hides behind the vehicle just in time to see a man come over and take the girl out. After turning a corner, the man runs across two more men and kills them both. The man then discovers the girl seated on a stool, while the title card plays. The film excels at using noise...

Short film research: Other side of the box, Thriller Genre

Image
The opening scene of the short film Other Side of the Box starts with a stormy, gloomy night. A man with a scared look on his face is driving all around the city. In the rearview mirror, we catch views of a shadowy figure who looks to be following him. After pulling up to an empty warehouse, the man quickly enters and locks the door. The figure seems to have already found him despite his attempt to find a place to hide. When he hears footsteps he turns and sees the dark figure waiting in the doorway. With a smile on his face the figure approaches and stands above him as he fell and hot the ground while trying to run. He begs for his life yet the figure lungers forward pulling out a knife. A struggle broke out and he attempted to fight back. When it looks like all hope is lost a group with guns pulls up and storms the building. The man is saved and the figure is captured. It gets revealed that that man was hired to silence him from the major trial he was a witness to. The man was ...

Comparing Le Jetee, the short, and 12 Monkeys, the full-length movie

The science fiction film Le Jetée, which examines the idea of time travel and the role that memory plays in shaping our perception of reality, is influential and highly regarded. The film recounts the tale of a sent back in man time to forestall a future debacle. Who utilizes a progression of still photos to portray the occasions of the story. The film's use of still images creates a dreamlike atmosphere and a sense of uncertainty as the story progresses. One of the significant topics of Le Jetée is the connection among time and memory. The film proposes that our recollections are not only a record of the past. Yet additionally an approach to molding how we might interpret the present and what's to come. As the hero turns back the clock, he is compelled to defy the recollections of his own past and the manners by which they have molded how he might interpret the world. The film likewise investigates the possibility that the demonstration of recollecting itself can be a type o...

Comparing 9, the short, and 9, the full-length movie

The film "9" is a 2009 vivified science fiction flick coordinated by Shane Acker. It depends on a short film he made in 2005 that was designated for an Oscar. That short recounts the account of some cloth dolls getting by after the world finishes. In the midst of the forlorn scene, the person 9 finds that cooperation is critical to endurance, prompting startling coalitions. The short is around 10 minutes and spotlights on one doll, 9, as he awakens in the obliterated world. This gets a lot more done in the entire movie, making the world and characters more complicated. It's north of 90 minutes and follows 9 and different dolls battling machines attempting to obliterate them. The film's essential bad guy, known as the 'Creation Machine', gives an imposing test to the heroes its scary, mechanical plan and determined pursuit. Another distinction is what it looks like. The movie has a more polished appearance due to the use of computer animation, whereas the s...

Short Film Research - Amber

Image
The plot is essential in this film. A barber working in a highway barbershop is caught in a deadly situation when he realizes that his first customer of the day isn’t who he expected him to be. Every frame in the film has a moment. This made the film so much better. The acting was very exceptional. Along with this, the film had amazing direction. Some of the moments in the film give you that active feeling of character, which is supported by smooth editing. The tension-building scene also helped to create a better experience while watching the film. The film was put together very well in all aspects. The camera angles made you feel as if you were almost living through the scenes. The scene in which he was drowning was especially enjoyable to watch. The scene showed an angle filmed from under the water which gave a very realistic sense. Overall there were so many small details that made the film great. Throughout the film, sound played a very large role. The extra tension built d...
