Short Film Research - Amber

The plot is essential in this film. A barber working in a highway barbershop is caught in a deadly situation when he realizes that his first customer of the day isn’t who he expected him to be. Every frame in the film has a moment. This made the film so much better. The acting was very exceptional. Along with this, the film had amazing direction. Some of the moments in the film give you that active feeling of character, which is supported by smooth editing. The tension-building scene also helped to create a better experience while watching the film. The film was put together very well in all aspects. The camera angles made you feel as if you were almost living through the scenes. The scene in which he was drowning was especially enjoyable to watch. The scene showed an angle filmed from under the water which gave a very realistic sense. Overall there were so many small details that made the film great. Throughout the film, sound played a very large role. The extra tension built due to these was exceptional. Seeing as this was the first thriller short I watched, the others will have a lot to compete with. So much was captured and displayed in such a surreal way. While watching, I found myself biting my nails out of anxiety. You could almost feel the characters emotions. For example, you could truly feel the same nervousness that the barber felt throughout the film. He was sweating and panicking which could also be felt in the audience. In order to produce film work like that, there must be experienced actors to play the roles. At no point did my interest falter due to bad acting, quality, or a boring plot. The constant tension made the film feel as though it was a full length movie. The shots of the shaking barbershop created such a realistic effect in the eyes of the audience, similar to the underwater camera angle. This film genuinely helped with my perspective on how to create my film and I will be doing everything I can to make my film as good as this film was.
