My short film for A-level Aice Media Studies was titled “The Beaten Path”. The film was about a man who was simply following his daily routine and going for a run when he came across a dead body on the path. The film details the following few days in which the police are involved, the body is covered up, and the killer is exposed. The film challenged conventions by showing corruption within employment. The killer was discovered to be the very same park ranger that was alerted to the body in the first place, allowing him time to dispose and cover up his tracks before the police could investigate. This shows how even the people we trust and look to for help could be something unexpected and that we need to be careful with who is trusted and who is hired for important positions in the world. There are important background checks that are commonly overlooked when certain applications are submitted for employment. The effects that this can have point towards corruption and can only lead t...
Today Zane started the editing process. After a long wait, filming is finally complete and editing can begin. He will use Adobe Editing Software for most of the editing and maybe iMovie for the rest. The editing is really easy for him and he enjoys it so I don’t have to do much editing. I’ve tried and asked but he refuses to let me touch editing because he enjoys it. He edited the last video so it was easier for him to just do this one too. When he is done, I will get opinions from other people on what to do better next time. There were new angles in this video that I would like outside opinions on. I will ask a bunch of different people to hopefully get honest opinions. Once reviewing the finally opinions, I can finalize the video for submission. Most of the editing will be done separately because it is easier that way. I cant really help a lot either way so it’s not like Zane will need me for anything. He said he hopes to finish early so he has time to review. I will also review...
Today I watched a video about making short films. The video mentioned that when writing, I need to keep in mind what we can pull off. I shouldn't write in things that are not possible when thinking realistically. In other words, anything too expensive should be scraped from the film. The video also discussed the theme and that it should guide the story. Whatever I want out of the story should be kept in mind while writing. It also mentioned that with stories where we want the audience to be surprised, we should not use our first idea. This way the obvious idea will not be given and they will be genuinely surprised by things. It emphasizes that casting the right people is also very important. They need to be able to look the part they are playing. They need to fit the character as well. This will not be a problem for my group. My group will have a member of our group play the each of the main characters and I am confident our members will succeed. They also emphasize i...
